Facebook has acquired GrokStylea purchasing startup that uses AI to allow you to get furniture and other items for the home. The move, which has been reported by Bloomberg, could be the latest sign yet that the societal media is looking to push deeper to e commerce in 2019.
Face-book spokesperson Vanessa Chan supported the acquisition saying,"We are excited to welcome GrokStyle to face book.
Their technology and team will contribute to our own AI capabilities." GrokStyle, which was founded in 2016 according to CrunchBase, is just a San Francisco startup focusing on visual furniture related product search search. The company is known for technology which enables shoppers to find for furniture as well as other items by shooting photos using their own phones.
This past year, the organization partnered with Ikea on its augmented-reality furniture program.
In a note posted on its site, the corporation said it had"just scraped the face of everything exactly is possible with computer vision"
Enabling visual, then the camera-based search would undoubtedly
make sense if the company was looking to create it much easier for users to get
in touch with retailers. The simple fact GrokStyle has previously been part of
an augmented reality program is particularly interesting, given that facebook is
building out its AR platform, for example shopable augmented-reality features
in Messenger.
